My hunt for a non-toxic cosmetic brand began over a year ago. I started to get more serious about my health, and with that came realizing just how toxic make-up and other beauty products really are. It was difficult to find a cosmetic line that not only looked good, but was also safe and high-quality.

I had almost given up my search for safe cosmetics until I stumbled upon Beautycounter. A brand new cosmetic line that has popped up on Old South Wharf on Nantucket.

Beautycounter is the first make-up line that is truly breaking the mold and putting safety first. It is a Santa Monica based start-up committed to selling non-toxic make-up, hair, baby, and skincare products.

Their mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. If you browse their website, Beautycounter will give you an eye opening wake up call about how toxic the chemicals are that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Beautycounter has taken the initiative to ban over 1,500 toxic ingredients that the US has yet to ban. Not only are their products committed to safety, they are a great price point and use incredibly natural colors. It feels like you are not wearing any make-up at all.

I fell down the Beautycounter rabbit hole with my first purchase of the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer. The tinted moisturizer is light, offers sun protection, and gives you a dewy complexion. It’s perfect to throw on to give you a fresh face for an afternoon at the beach! You can purchase their products online, and they are also doing a limited-time launch at Target to build brand awareness.

After purchasing the tinted moisturizer, I was able to sit down with on-island Beautycounter extraordinaire, Anne Oliver, for a one-on-one Beautycounter tutorial to learn more about the line.

While applying the Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer, Anne explained that the tinted moisturizer evens the skin tone while protecting your skin from sun damage with SPF 20.

{My favorite Lip Sheer is long-lasting and lightweight. It also contains a hint of vanilla planifola, but there is not a trace of synthetic fragrances.}
