Recently, Chicago rooftops have been a common theme on RompWorthy, but with good reason: they are a summer time must. Last Tuesday A. and I caught up with one of our favorite style bloggers, Blake Von D, at the city’s newest rooftop, Cindy’s at the Chicago Athletic Association. Fresh from earning her degree in Law, Blake recently moved to Chicago just in time for Sweet Summertime-Chi. We were not shy in telling her just how great the summers are here–from Lake Michigan, to Lollapalooza, to rooftops, this city comes alive for three, sweet months.

Cindy’s at the Chicago Athletic Association is located on Michigan Avenue right across from the Bean and Millennium Park. We were a tad skeptical when we showed up without reservations and there was a line for the elevator, but after about twenty minutes we found ourselves on a beautiful roof with a cocktail menu in hand.

We started off with a few of Cindy’s signature cocktails, including a “Kick in the Daisy” and the “Grey Garden.” The cocktails are handcrafted by veteran bartender Nandini Khaund. Khaund joined Cindy’s as the “spirit guide” after bartending at another famous Chicago establishment, Violet Hour.

My “Grey Garden” was delightful, and the “Kick in the Daisy” also received rave reviews with it’s hint of spice for the “kick.”

The three of us decided we were all famished, so after perusing the menu and receiving recommendations from our prompt waitress, we went with Mary P.’s Meatballs. All dishes are share size, so we started with the meatballs before ordering another dish.

The meatballs lived up to the hype and were worth then$24. They are a family recipe, that had been passed down to each generation. From the meatballs, we decided to share the fish and chips which were good but I would order the meatballs over the fish and chips all day long.

Chicago Athletic Association

We finished our food and drinks before heading out to the outer deck area that overlooks Millennium Park. Chicago Athletic Association sure did not disappoint, it is most definitely a RompWorthy and blog-worthy spot, so be sure to check it out before the summer is over!
